Been to your local library lately?

I went to the library today and returned 3 books, 4 books on cd and contributed 4 magazines to the recycle table.

Library books on shelvesI left the library with 5 books on cd, 3 magazines from the recycle table, one book and 2 magazines (due in 7 days).

When I arrived at 9:58 am for the 10:00 am opening, there were 16 people milling around outside! Moms with strollers, students with assignments, homeless men and women and others like me … wanted to check in my items and check out some more.

Do you go to the library much these days? If you do, you’ll see that the computers are filled up with patrons as soon as the doors open. And you’ll see many more people than ever before wanting to find a place to read, work and relax.

Been there lately?

  1. The last time I was at the library was probably 2 months ago. My son is almost 13 months old and so our library days have been numbered. We tried going to their story hour which, unfortunately coincides with naptime. That definitely was not a good plan. I barely go to the library anymore, otherwise. My eReader brings my books straight to me without the gas money, the use of all that paper, and the piles of books in my home without a place to go!

PS – Found you via the Blogathon.

    1. Hi Chris,
I take my grandson there quite a bit but have found he’s not into the storytime… he’d rather explore the globe, turn on the table lamps, play with the computers, build blocks and help me check out books! I figure it’s a great place for him to hang out and we practice using our ‘library voice’! Thanks for touching base!

It’s been a while, Marge. I used to go often for the reading group at the one a block from me — not sure when I stopped going.

Thanks for that reminder. Need to see what they’re up to.

  3. I enjoy going to the library. It is a great place to study, writed, check out community events, and even read. Not so familiar with the new library (we moved recently) but am beginning to get acquainted with it. Nice post.

  4. Yes, I was there three days ago. There’s always a lot of people there. I returned one book and picked up another one. I do that all the time.

  5. As more people are jobless, more are using the library instead of buying books. They are also using the Career Center where they can write and print their resumes and cover letters. I just hope we don’t cut any funding that is allotted to the library because these people are already overloaded and their resources are stretched too thin!

    Thanks for your comments!

  6. The library is one of my favorite places in the world. I love the calm atmosphere, the sound of books hitting the shelves and even the slightly damp and dusty smell. I have a long commute to work, so I get all my books on tape from the libarary to make my commute more enjoyable. I finally got The 5 People You Meet in Heaven book-on-tape and will start it tomorrow!

  7. On my recent trip I had 8 books on cd with me. Some I didn’t like, some I had already heard, some skipped and some …. were wonderful! I loved “This I Believe” and I loved listening to the wide range of authors read their short stories aloud.

I hope you enjoy your book as well!
